Margaret Dennis, who has died after a long illness, was the widow of former Scarborough Cricket Club captain Geoff Dennis
  • Margaret was well known in the area for her charity work. 
  • School jumble sales developed an interest in fundraising & this was followed by work for the scout movement. 
  • Margaret was a pioneer in starting up the St. Catherine’s Hospice retail network opening the first shop in Castle Road in 1986 and later becoming the volunteer manager of the Falsgrave Road shop. 
  • Christian Aid and the Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs also benefitted from her fundraising. 
  • She received the Paul Harris fellowship award from Scarborough Rotary Club in 1992
  • She was awarded the MBE for her services to the community in the millennium New Years Honours list.

Margaret died on July 15th 2008
